Description: |
A bush or small tree of mangroves, about 12 m tall, twigs quadrangular, with prominent upwardly growing pneumatophores emerging from the system of cable roots. Leaves 6-7 cm long, sessile. Flowers large; calyx narrowly 6-parted, inside the calyx lobes greenish; petals 6, persistent, dark red. Fruit 5-7 cm wide, calyx flattish, scarsely enclosing the fruit, with persistent tapering style-base forming a point 2.5 cm long in the centre.
