Description: Herbaceous perennial or subshrub, shrub, or small treelt, 1 - 4 m tall. Leaf blade thin-cartaceous or submembranous, dark green above, lighter beneath, usually elliptic, occasionally elliptic-obovateor obovate to obovate-oblong or almost oblong, 7 - 22 cm long, 3.1 - 8 cm wide, apically acute or short-acuminate, marginally serrate with acute teeth on the upper ?? or 2/3 or merely denticulate-serrulate, basally acute or subcuneate. Inflorescence terminal and racemose. Fruit drupaceous, subglobose or broadly obovoid. Seeds 1 per lobe or often 1- 3 aborted.
