Description: Rhizomatous herbs. Stems branched or unbranched, stout, up to 1 m tall, leafy. Leaves spirally arranged; sheaths tubular, reddish, hisuate; shortly petiolate, to 20 x 10 cm, upper surface patterned with bands of light and dark green; ligule 1 mm. Bracts reddish-green, up to 4 x 4 cm; bracteoles reddish; corolla white; labellum yellow, up to 6 x 5 cm. Capsule ellipsoid, glabrous.
