Description: A large tree; stem apices 1-2 mm thick; joints of branchlets about 1 mm or less thick and 5-10 mm long with 6-8 stiae on each. Leaves reduced to scales, about 6-8 per whorl. Male flower in 7-25 mm long spikes. Female flowers in globose or cylindrical heads. Fruits (Samaras) enclosed in the enlarged and hardened bracteoles. Seed flattened with a terminal wing.
