Description: |
Assumingly a short-lived perennial, tufted in large culmps without conspicuous rhizome. Culms erect or weakly recurved, terete transversely septate at intervals of 5 - 20 mm, hollow, smooth, glabrous, deeply green and slightly shiny when alive, clothed at base with 2 or 3 bladeless sheaths only. Upper 2 basal sheaths cylindrical, herbaceous, pale green and later becoming yellow-brownish, the orifice obliquely truncate with brown-spotted membranous margin, lower 1 or 2 sheaths reduced and scalelike, brown. Inflorescence a pseudolateral head, located at midway portion of the culm or much lower down near the apex of uppermost sheath, densely bearing several to over 60 spikelets. Achenes broadly obovate, acutely triquetrous.
