Description: Tree or large shrub, up to 25 m tall, evergreen. Leaves coriaceous, in whorls of 3 - 4 , lamina 7 - 28 X (1.25-) 2 - 7.5 cm, narrowly elliptic to broadly elliptic to oblanceolate, apex rounded-obtuse to occasionally emarginated, base narrowed-obtuse or subcordate, entire, red when young, glabrous at matuarity. Male flowers numerous, pedicellate, in bractate. Female flowers very shortly pedicellate, in compact, densely pubescent, axillary fascicles or panicles up to 1 cm long. Capsule c. 1 X 1 cm, 3-lobed, lobes bluntly keeled, ripening dark green, glabrous. Seeds c. 7 X 5 mm, obscurely trigonous, shiny dark-brown.
