Description: |
Shrubs, to 2 m tall. Branchlets hairy; hairs recurved. Stipules filiform, about 4 mm, caducous; petiole 1-2 cm, hairy; leaf blade, 6-12 ?? 2.5-6 cm, surfaces nearly glabrous or stellate pilose, basal veins 3, base broadly cuneate to nearly rounded, margin crenate-serrate. Flowers solitary, axillary, pendulous, tubular, slightly expanded apically only, about 5 cm. Pedicel about 15 mm, hairy.Flowers large, epicalyx lobes about 8, spatulate, 1-1.5 cm, margins ciliate. Calyx slightly longer than epicalyx, hirsute. Petals red. Staminal column about 7 cm, exerted. Fruit unknown. (This species is having numerous varieties. The variety commonly used as a medicinal plant in Sri Lanka having more petals than the usual set of five).
