Description: A tree with a tendency to candelabriform branching, seldom over 10 m tall; stems and branches more or less prickly. Leaves spiraled in three rows; blade ensiform; the largest leaves up to 3 m long, 9 cm broad. Inflorescences 30-60 cm long. Female infl., only on female trees, peduncle 10-30 cm long. Inflorescence globose, 30 x 20 cm.
